Subject: Merry Christmas from Bundaberg!
Hello there!
This is a blanket email to a whole lot of people who have helped me with my family history research – some recently and some not so recently.
Seeing as Christmas is only a few days away I thought I would just send a quick email to say hello and wish you and yours - wherever you are in the world - a Safe and Enjoyable Christmas with family or loved ones.
As many of you are from various countries, I know that we will all be enjoying Christmas in different ways. Of course, those of you in Europe are freezing right now and will be enjoying a very, very White Christmas. Here it is a little warmer and we are being deluged with a lot of rain and it will also be raining on Christmas Day. All the rivers and creeks are in flood and all the dams are full – which makes a change from the dry weather we have endured for many years. A tropical low is coming into North Queensland as we speak and it could still turn into a cyclone. The weather bureau predicts we may have several cyclones this year which if they bring a lot of rain will cause a lot of flooding now that everything is already full and the land is soaked. For those of you overseas, a cyclone is similar to a hurricane in America and brings rain and destructive winds in its path.
Vickie and I are entertaining some family and friends for Breakfast on Christmas Morning and then we are off to lunch at her cousin’s place. They have a new swimming pool. The plan was to spend the hot Christmas Day by the pool but if it is raining maybe we will have to find something else to do! Vickie and I have a few days leave but no plans to go away on a holiday. We will make some day trips to visit friends and family and may go to Miara where my dad has a permanent caravan by the water. There will be no fish, crabs or prawns this year as the water is now completely fresh with the floods. Anthea and Zoe spent a week up there earlier this month and brought home some nice crabs they caught with Dad. Once again for the uninitiated this is a yummy mud crab ...a Queensland icon and best consumed with a glass of beer or sweet white wine
This year I have endeavoured to conduct research when time permitted. Thank you for all your support and assistance no matter how large or small. Earlier in the year I was fortunate to make touch with some Presswood/Prestwood relatives in England and also some Creamer relatives here in Australia through Ancestry.com Then I spent some time researching my Reeve ancestors who were early settlers in Tasmania and made touch with some fellow researchers about that family. More recently I have been communicating with a fellow researcher in the Netherlands and we shared some information on my Grabhorn/Graphorn ancestors from Oldenburg and he has also sent through some terrific information on my early Hazenberg family lines which goes back to 1360. This also included a famous relative who played a part in the Reformation in the Netherlands. Apart from that there have been many other updates and emails exchanged. There are so some many outstanding follow-ups for me to do it is hard to keep up! The main difficulty is balancing work and family commitments but I enjoy making and sharing new discoveries. Almost weekly new discoveries can be made when some time is invested in research and it is amazing the people you have something in common with and the things you learn about history and geography. Thank you to all who have assisted and sharing information this year! Unfortunately, I have only done a little on Vickie’s side of the family this year apart from some updates provided by others.
Anthea and Zoe are growing up quickly and keep us busy with school, sporting and youth commitments. They have both made representative football (soccer) for Wide Bay region in 2011 so we will all be travelling to training and competitions. See under 14 and 16 girls RJPSL teams at http://www.footballwidebay.com.au/wb-rep/centre-of-excellence-coe.html
The most recent photograph I have of our family is in June when we celebrated my mum and dad’s 50th Wedding Anniversary – so I have attached. (L to R: Vickie, Anthea, Dad (Colin), Mum (Eva/Ietje), Ray (hiding at the back) and Zoe) We had a lovely celebration for them with many friends, family and their original bridal party. I was Chairman for the evening.
I will go now but no doubt I will be talking to some of you again soon. I am always happy to exchange information to keep our mutual records up to date.
God Bless, Merry Christmas and a Safe and Prosperous 2011
Best regards
Ray, Vickie, Anthea and Zoe
